The goal of the project is to create an plugin for the Mozilla-based browsers supporting the HTTP Negotiate authentication method. Main motivation is to add support for the Kerberos mechanism and use Kerberos tickets for user's authentication instead of their password so the users' Kerberos passwords will no longer be transfered to the web server. More information on the use of Negotiate method in Mozilla and Apache can be found at http://meta.cesnet.cz/software/heimdal/negotiate.en.html. The development of the apache module was moved to SourceForge.
Kerberos is a strong authentication method widely used in various enviroments. It provides an secure framework for authentication and message integrity protection. The Kerberos authentication is based on tickets issued by a trusted party. These tickets serve as certificates about identity their holders. More information on Kerberos can be found in the Kerberos FAQ.
